Empowering members for a future where ALL of us can thrive.

Let’s grow stronger together to:

Secure labor friendly environments and expand collective bargaining.

Organize for union power and support building leadership capacity.

Restore respect for public service and advocate for a living wage.

Invest in our public public schools and protect academic freedom.

Advance racial, social, and economic justice.

Secure Labor Friendly Environments & Expand Collective Bargaining

The rights of organized labor vary across state and local affiliates. We must work to support customizable strategies to:

  • Defend against legislative attacks aimed at weakening labor rights.

  • Reverse existing “right-to-work” laws where possible.

  • Advocate for increased access to collective bargaining.

Organize for Union Power & Support Building Leadership Capacity

In this moment, we have to unlock our collective strength by increasing levels of member engagement. NEA can support our local leaders with:

  • Trainings for locals on issues-based organizing and structure tests.

  • Programs to recruit and retain diverse, emerging leaders.

  • Resources that activate members to take action back home.

There are badges and a championship belt on the podium, and a woman with gray hair and glasses on her head sits to his right, partially visible.

Restore Respect for Public Service & Advocate for a Living Wage

Public servants commit their lives to supporting the daily well-being of our communities. We can work to shift public attitudes, raise morale, and reaffirm the value of public service with actions that:

  • Humanize and celebrate the impact of public service.

  • Counter false narratives and attempts to privatize.

  • Secure competitive wages and benefits through mechanisms like the ESP Bill of Rights and minimum educator salary laws.

Invest in Our Public Schools & Protect Academic Freedom

Public education is the cornerstone of a democratic society. Every student deserves access to high quality public schools where educators can teach an honest and inclusive curriculum. We must organize to:

  • Fight to defeat school vouchers schemes.

  • Lobby to create more equitable funding systems and fully fund IDEA.

  • Pushback against curriculum censorship and book bans.

Advance Racial, Social, and Economic Justice

Everyone - regardless of race, class, background, or identity - deserves access to equitable opportunities, resources, and respect. Public schools are uniquely positioned to challenge systems of oppression by equipping students with critical thinking, affirming diverse identities, and cultivating civic consciousness. NEA can lead towards liberation with:

  • Ongoing anti-racism and social justice training for leaders.

  • Pathways for leaders from underrepresented backgrounds.

  • Resources to support bargaining for the common good.

“A great leader will lead by giving others the tools to become leaders themselves.”

— Bayard Rustin, Civil Rights Activist
